on your land, 2 miles from your house. how many lots of land do you have?living the dream huh.
Directly behind the barn here I own 310 acres which is surrounded by National Forest Land and tax forfeited land. However I own a couple other parcels, one of which is this section with the bear activity.
you are one lucky man. 310 acres all to yourself, plus some other lots. someday i hope to have a bunch of land, but was thinking 20-40 acres (or as much as i can get) backed up to a bunch of state/fed land.
Looks like you've got yourself a pet, there ;)We had a bearsighting in out village 2 weeks ago, about 500 meters from our home. That still is a sobering thought for a European cityboy, like me.
A few years ago I had one in the garden right in front of the house, less than 20 meters from the front door. At the same time the kids were walking down the driveway to catch the school bus. UN-nerving indeed.
I can imagine that! What did you do? Try catch it's attention or just left it alone? The place of the sighting here was about halfway our house and the greenhouse I worked at, right next to the road I ride my bicycle. I sure did look around extra hard the next couple of times I passed the spot...
Since they were walking down the half mile driveway I didn't want him running off into the woods beside of them, should the little one have screamed and ran I was afraid it would have triggered a predator/prey instinct reaction. So I just watched him, he was intent on eating my vegetables and they got on the bus. This was five years ago now and once we got our dogs the bears stopped coming.
You are fortunate to have so much land where you can leave a camera set up and expect it to still be there when you come back. Can't do that around here. I once set a camera trap where I had high hopes of getting photos and video of bear and cougar. Someone found and stole the camera. Can't leave anything out in the woods around here.
I am indeed. I've heard the tree stand and camera theft stories from other places, that's got to suck.
You know, I've had that same itch the adolescent bear in the first slides had before. My mind went to the "oh, thank goodness there's a tree handy" thought, too.Great pics, and you're living the dream.
