-25F Day Camp Bacon & Mushroom Soup

First day out with the Boreal Shirt from Empire Canvas Works. I had Kevin make this one out of a couple blankets that I had. This was my first chance to get outside since I took delivery of it.

Quite cold today at -25 so a fire and something hot was in order, video covers most of it. As cold as it was I really needed to get outside for a while.

And the soup came out pretty good!

  1. Hi there,
Sorry if this is off topic, but I've appreciated your reviews of Bison Gear packs. I'm wondering if you have more pictures of the Lemhi pack. I found some of yours on Bushcraft, but if possible, I'd like to see some pics with it loaded up. Any thoughts on it in general? Thanks much.

  2. The Lemhi is a great pack and when I need more than my Lost River can hold I switch over to it. With the aluminum stays in place it is a decent internal frame pack, the pockets are well situated and are logical in size for me. In the two wing pockets I put a 40oz water bottle in one and water purification system in the other. Bottom facing pocket has my shelter kit and the top has fire and first aid kits.

It'll haul a lot of gear and as usual with BG stuff it is bombproof. I'd have to look around for more pics of it.

  3. Hey thanks for the swift reply- don't feel like you have to dig around too much for pictures. I don't want you to go through too much trouble on my account.
I know this is something of a subjective matter, but I'm looking for a pack around that 3000 c.i. mark that I can use around home for whitetails but also take into the mountains for a 3-5 day trip. How is the frame on that Lemhi? I guess what I'm wondering is if I should just stick with a frameless daypack like the Lost River from Bison and go with the more, shall we say, well-known mountain hunting packs (Kifaru, Mystery Ranch, etc.). Thanks for your input- again I know some of this is subjective and I have to make my own choice at some point...

  4. It's STILL -25 up there? When does spring typically start to break through up there?

    1. Well the stupid cold as I've taken to calling it should ease up later this month, we've probably go two maybe three storms left for snowfall. If it replays like last year the last of our snow will be gone by or on May 21, that's the day the last of it melted last year.

  5. For the life of me, I cannot find your encoded email address anywhere. All is well. I just need to focus on the farm and the garden and all that's going on that I am not inclined to share. Which leaves recipes and books. And that gets boring if you don't write a political blog. I'm not constituted to do boring. So I finished reading Jane Eyre today. And I feel better. Thanks for asking!
