One Handed Day Out

Put this up in the forums the other day. It's a day in the woods shraftin one handed.

With surgery on my left hand and having limited to no use of it I still wanted to spend sometime outside, the following is how it went.

Thanks for looking!

  1. An injury such as that should not be immersed in dish water for at least two - three years, perhaps longer.

  2. Doesn't look like it is slowing you down too much, and actually I thought it revealed some interesting tricks for functioning with one hand, particularly when you were shaving that kindling. It looked like you had the blade clamped with your foot and were drawing the wood back to make the shavings.
    Hope it heals quickly!

    1. It's a little misleading in the video, the knife is actually wedged into that round clear to the spine of it. So what's under my foot is actually the round itself which is acting like a vice to hold the blade.

      It works!

Thanks for the well wishes. It's mending fast sure enough.

  3. Fortunately it's your left hand, assuming you are right handed. Small steps and don't rush it. Eventually it will heal. At least that's what I keep telling myself since my heart attack and surgery a couple of months go.

    1. Yep, it was my left and I am a righty. Saw the doc today, he was surprised at the progress. Got the take it easy on it speech and I intend to do that. Likely will be taping it to the middle finger when I stop using the split just as a extra precaution to help keep it from over exertion and the like.

Hope you're doing well not, didn't know you had one.
