Sly Fox, Fat Coon, Wandering Bear....

Last dump of the memory card on one of the trail cams for the year.

One of the fattest racoons I've ever caught on a camera.

Emerging from the right, there's a bear coming...

That's it for this camera this year.

  1. Terrific pictures!

What advice do you have for someone, new to trail cameras, who is thinking of setting up some of his own?

    1. Hey Steve,

The folks at http://www.trailcampro.com/ are a wealth of information that should be helpful.

From my perspective I wouldn't buy overly expensive camera(s) to get started. Something in the $75 to $125 range is pretty encompassing and offers a fair selection of features and performance without breaking the bank.

Once you've determined that it is a hobby you want to pursue you'll have garnered a good amount of experience with your starter cameras and have a better idea of the features you want. High quality images, video, great night images, ranges etc etc. You'll also learn about set ups, stuff like not aiming them in the direction of the sun. Or placing them with the sensitivity on high and aimed where the shadows of trees moving will set them off.

In the future I'm going to be setting them for specific types of captures. As an example I'm going to set some on likely drumming logs in an effort to capture some images of drumming grouse.

It's a fun hobby that helps me learn about wildlife on my property.

      Good luck!
